This week I was saddened to learn that my friend Neel Goel passed away. Neel and I shared an office for nearly a year in Vienna Austria while we were both working for the International Atomic Energy Agency.
Neel was a man of the globe. Always smartly dressed, he carried himself in that self-assured Indian manner of a person far from home yet grounded in his roots. Part of this grounding was his strong affection for his wife Priya and his children.
While Neel could be serious about accounting matters and focus on the technical detail, he also had a sense of humor and fun that made him an excellent roommate, a valued colleague and more importantly, a good friend. A friend who was far away by distance yet seemed very near until hearing hearing of his passing. Best wishes to his family and thank you Neel for a lot of laughs in the room we shared so long and so far ago.
The following are some photos and memories of Neel and his family.
