Back to Northwest Quadrant – YEG-Ville.
Kilini Creek is a fast-flowing, wide, shallow stream that winds through extensive sedge meadows and drains various dams, the work of generations of beavers. The creek starts around Smithfield, angles toward Onoway (crosses at the junction of Highway 16 and Highway 43), angles northeast and ends at Devil’s Lake. [adapted 1]
The precise origin of the name is unknown. It was recorded as “Kilikinik Creek” in the 1901 field notes of the Dominion Land Survey and with the current spelling on the 1913 township plan. The name may be a misspelled reference to the Cree name for bearberry – kinikinik [2].

- High Beginner, deeply rutted and damaged trails.
Good News, Bad News
Parking is available at the end of Range Road 22. Follow the quad tracks into the area. There is a North-South cut line that will take you as far as Township Road 534 – the good news.
The bad news is the ATVs have destroyed much of the track making the trail difficult to navigate. Extreme caution must be taken so you don’t turn a knee or wrench an ankle. The reserve is a mile (1.6KM) in length; the track extends North into Lac St. Anne County. The track appears to be Range Road 22 and therefore public access.

Despite this, I am still rating this area worth visiting. There are a number of side trails. It is possible to strike out away from the ATV ruination …
